About
Steve Wang is the founder of HomeLab Toolkit, an independent, evidence-based publication for mini PCs, NAS devices, and home servers. After 18 years building digital products — including merchant-facing tools at Alibaba Local Services and channel digitalization at Syngenta Group — he kept running into the same problem: product pages answer marketing questions, not the questions that matter after the box arrives. Which network controller is actually installed? Does Linux see every device? What does the system draw at the wall, measured, not claimed?
HomeLab Toolkit began the same way: buy the hardware, run the tests nobody publishes, and write down what actually happened. That work became the site's guides, calculators, and troubleshooting libraries.
Background
- Founder & Editor, HomeLab Toolkit (2026–present) — Building an evidence-based home-server resource with openly published measurement data
- Director of Channel Digitalization, Syngenta Group (2021–2023) — Led digital transformation for 1M+ retailers across China
- Senior Product Expert, Alibaba Local Services (2019–2021) — Built merchant tools serving 1M+ small businesses
Approach to home-server content
Steve is not a professional test lab. HomeLab Toolkit's content is built on a simple principle: measure on real hardware, publish the raw data, and cite everything. Every hands-on conclusion starts with a documented test on a physical unit — BIOS options, power readings at the wall, transcode concurrency, sleep and wake behavior — and the limits of that test are stated. When a result is single-unit and could vary, the page says so instead of presenting it as a universal spec.
Raw measurement evidence is published openly in a public repository (eqi12-measurement-data) so any reader can check the numbers behind a conclusion. Chinese-language sources — manuals, retail listings, supplier documentation — are cross-checked against the actual hardware and English-language references before they are trusted.
